چکیده

We study numerically two-dimensional nanoparticles with a non-regular shape and demonstrate that these particles can support many more plasmon resonances than a particle with a regular shape (e.g. an ellipse). The electric field distributions associated with these different resonances are investigated in detail in the context of near-field microscopy. Depending on the particle shape, extremely strong and localized near-fields, with intensity larger than 105 that of the illumination wave, can be generated. We also discuss the spectral dependence of these near-fields and show that different spatial distributions are observed, depending which plasmon resonance is excited in the particle.

Large dielectrophoresis force and torque induced by localized surface plasmon resonance of Au nanoparticle array.

A new approach is proposed for manipulating and rotating micro- or nano-objects by using polarized laser light with low intensity. The polarized light excites resonant dipoles on a cap-shaped Au nanoparticle array, which generates a highly nonuniform radiation field that induces large dielectrophoresis force on dielectric objects. The orientation control of the objects is realized by adjusting ...

Screening sensitive nanosensors via the investigation of shape-dependent localized surface plasmon resonance of single Ag nanoparticles.

Understanding the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of differently shaped plasmonic nanoparticles benefits screening and designing highly sensitive single nanoparticle sensors. Herein, in the present work, we systematically investigated the shape-dependent scattering light colours and refractive index (RI) sensitivity of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) at the single nanoparticle level using c...

Hydrogen sensing by localized surface plasmon resonance in colloidal solutions of Au-WO3-Pd

Nowadays, hydrogen has attracted significant attention as a next generation clean energy source. Hydrogen is highly flammable, so detection of hydrogen gas is required. Gold nanoparticle based localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is an advanced and powerful sensing technique, which is well known for its high sensitivity to surrounding refractive index change in the local environment. We p...

Individual gold dimers investigated by far- and near-field imaging.

Plasmon resonances in 3D nanoparticle arrangements can produce strong localized optical fields, which are of importance for any application involving interaction of light with subwavelength volumes of matter down to the molecular level. In particular, remarkable field enhancement and confinement occur in a dimer geometry formed by two identical closely spaced particles. Although, recent advance...

Metal nanoparticle arrays for near field optical lithography

We have recently proposed a new approach to optical lithography that could be used to replicate arrays of metal nanoparticles using broad beam illumination with visible light and standard photoresist. The method relies on resonant excitation of the surface plasmon oscillation in the nanoparticles. When excited at the surface plasmon frequency, a resonantly enhanced dipole field builds up around...
